01 Oct BSIA Labour Market Study
In August 2021, the BC Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training approved a Labour Market Study for BC’s Building Supply Sector. This is a comprehensive study intended to provide the sector with much needed information with respect to job vacancies and hiring challenges, recruitment and retention issues, compensation practices and education and training needs. The project is being led by the BSIA and the work is being completed by R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd., a national research firm whose head office is in Victoria, BC.
This project will take place in two phases over the next 18 months. Phase 1 – Industry Engagement – is scheduled to run from the fall of 2021 to early winter of 2022. Starting in the Fall of 2021 we will be reaching out to selected employers to participate in either a one-on-one interview or in a regional roundtable to discuss the key human resource issues facing the sector. The objective of this phase is to frame the key issues that should be explored in more detail in the broader employer survey scheduled for the spring of 2022 (the Phase 2 research).
In terms of next steps, you may be contacted by a researcher from Malatest to participate in an interview and/or focus group sometime later this fall. While I know that the industry will still likely be experiencing ongoing Covid-related challenges, your participation is critical to make sure that we address the key human resource issues facing our sector.
I thank you in advance for your support on this important project!
