2021 Bursary Application - Awarding Bursaries

Since 1975 the BSIA Board of Directors has awarded over $261,000 in bursaries to BSIA member employees and dependents of employees. Over the years these bursaries have increased in value and in 2020, 5 bursaries were awarded for a value of $4,800.

The BSIA Bursaries are investments in individuals who demonstrate financial need, exhibit enthusiasm, ambition and all-around merit.
Purpose

The BSIA bursaries are available to applicants who wish to further their post secondary education and who express a need for monetary assistance, demonstrate a strong personal development plan, career aspirations and goals, citizenship, community activities and involvement and academic achievement. These are ALL criteria considered in the bursary selection process.

The BSIA bursary is open to ALL individuals with a variety of academic interests and backgrounds. The bursary provides opportunities for the accredited study of their choice. Bursary funds are intended to assist with a student’s education related costs. To be considered for a bursary, applicants must have submitted a complete bursary application by the published deadline.


General Guidelines

 The bursaries are available to employees or dependents of an employee, manager or owner (retail or supplier) who are BSIA members in good standing.  They are also available to immediate family including someone's spouse, parents and grandparents, children and grand children, brothers and sisters, mother in law and father in law, brothers in law and sisters in law, daughters in law and sons in law. Adopted, half, and step members are also included in immediate family.


The employee, applicant or parent, must have a minimum of one year’s employment with the member company. Applicants must be registered to attend a recognized Post Secondary Institution; university, community or technical college or certified technical program.
