The Ultimate Show Home

The Building Supply Industry Association of BC (BSIA) is pleased to announce its involvement in creating The Ultimate Show Home. We have partnered with Danny Evans, a successful local developer to assist in building The Ultimate Show Home.

The Ultimate Show Home is a three story craftsman built home situated on a prestigious ½ acre lot in Topham Estates, just blocks away form the Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, BC. With over 8000 square feet of living space the Ultimate Show Home will truly be Ultimate.

The purpose of this project is to provide a venue for BSIA members and associates to showcase their products and services in the construction of The Ultimate Show Home. As the home is being constructed, the public and all members of our industry will be able to observe each phase of the building process through a comprehensive media program utilizing print, internet, television and radio.

This website will document the process of building the home. At the conclusion of the construction the BSIA will be staging an exclusive 1 month Open House aimed at the general public, industry members, contractors and designers to show case the member supplied products and to inform them where the products are available. The open house will be staffed by students from our Charity Partner, Teen Challenge.

The Ultimate Show Home is the first of its kind for the Building Supply Industry Association of British Columbia. “We’re breaking ground in a number of ways,” says Thomas Foreman, President of the BSIA. “We’re excited to give our members a highly visible and anticipated avenue to showcase their excellent products and services. It also provides an exciting opportunity for homeowners to learn about the building process, the products and the services in a unique setting: The Ultimate Show Home.”

Construction is well under way and the buzz has already started. The Ultimate Show Home is destined to attract crowds of homeowners with dreams of building their own ultimate home – dreams made easier by the manufacturers, suppliers and retailers in the building supply industry.

The BSIA is excited to offer our members the opportunity to showcase their products and services in this unique setting. The Ultimate Show Home Committee consists of past BSIA President, George Tracy, BSIA Business Development Coordinator Jeff Humphreys, BSIA News Magazine Publisher and owner of New Wave Print & Publishing Paul Barrell, Homelife Realtor/Developer Danny Evans and BSIA President Thomas Foreman.

Keep that garbage disposal grinding

Your garbage disposal is the workhorse of your kitchen and repairing it is easy if you know how. I’ll show you how to fix that disposer in no time and keep you grinding away. Ready? Get Set. Reset!

OK, before we start with any troubleshooting, I want you to promise me that you will please obey the cardinal rule of "Garbage Disposal Repair". That is you will never put your hand in the hopper (down the drain into the disposal)!
That being said, let's take a look at fixing this vital piece of kitchen equipment.

PROBLEM:
Disposal Will Not Turn On (no noise)
If the disposal will not turn on and it is NOT making a humming sound, then there is an electrical problem.

  • This may seem obvious, but make sure the disposal is plugged in.
  • If it is plugged in then press the Reset button found on the bottom of the unit. If it has reset, the button will be popped out.
  • If that does not work, check to see if the circuit breaker has tripped and turned off in the electrical service panel.
  • If the breaker has not tripped and the reset button is not popped out, then it's either a faulty switch or a faulty garbage disposal. First locate the switch that powers the disposal unit. It should be located on the wall but may be under the sink.
  • Turn off the circuit breaker at the service panel which powers the disposal.
  • Replace the switch.
  • Turn power back on at the service panel and check the disposal for operation.
  • If the disposal will still not turn on and makes no noise, the garbage disposal is beyond repair and needs to be replaced.
